CROWDER, Alice

Source: 1940s obituaries collected by Rose Marie Sutherlin provided to kbz via Betty Dotson (one great lady and genealogist – both were and ironically, I have been cleaning my genealogy things out and found this on the day Betty passed)

Rockville – Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Alice Crowder, age 59, who was found burned to death at her home near Montezuma Saturay morning.  Circumstances surrounding the death of the woman have not been fully determined but it is believed her death was accidental. She had been serving as housekeeper for Ed Miller near Montezuma for some time but he had been away from home for several days. Saturday morning a neighbor, William Vandiver saw smoke coming from the Miller home and upon investigation found Mrs. Crowder lying outside the house, her clothing burned from her.  It was believed that she had returned home and had attempted to build a fire with kerosene which probably exploded, setting her clothing on fire. The only survivors is a brother, Charles Weaver of near Judson. Following the funeral services Sunday burial was made in the Bethany cemetery near Marshall.  County Coroner JH Branson and the county sheriff investigated.
